A Brief History
There has been a youth rugby program in Bloomington for well over a decade. It started with two teams, one for BHSN and another for BHSS. In the years that followed popularity for the sport dropped off, causing the two teams to become an all Bloomington team. Even though there was a city team they were not yet called the Spartans. For many years the team went by the name of The B-Town Ballers. Some success came in those years with the club making it to the state finals in 2005.
After a troubled and unorganized 2006 season the parents of players decided to take charge for the upcoming 2007 season. Although the record for the season was poor, the parent participation and the enjoyment shown by players was record breaking for the team. This sparked the team to turn over a new leaf and thus, in 2007, the Bloomington Spartans came to be.The Bloomington Spartans now have over 30 players on the roster and is growing with each year. Students from every school grades 9-12 are invited to come out and play. There are currently student from BHSS, BHSS, and New Tech, all of which combine under name The Spartans.
